Jackson, Mississippi (January 3, 2024) — Matthews, Cutrer & Lindsay, P.A. (MC&L), a leading accounting firm, announces the retirement of J. Raleigh Cutrer, CPA/ABV, at the end of 2023. Cutrer is one of MC&L’s founding shareholders and has dedicated 35 years to the firm, with over 45 years of experience in public accounting. The firm is excited to introduce new directors, Shannon Adams, CPA, and Tolliver C. McMullen, CPA, CFE, who will be joining the firm leadership team at the beginning of 2024.
“While we were sad to see Cutrer leave the firm, we are excited for his well-deserved retirement and are confident that his leadership will still be felt throughout MC&L,” Managing Shareholder, Matt Freeland, CPA, said. “Under his guidance, MC&L has been able to expand and grow as one of Mississippi’s top accounting firms, and we are tremendously grateful for the work he’s accomplished.”
Cutrer has masterfully guided MC&L to new heights during his time as a shareholder, and past managing shareholder, overseeing the firm’s tax planning and preparation practice in addition to directing the firm’s business valuation services. Alongside holding the prestigious Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) designation, as recognized by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), he is part of several local and national accounting advisory committees and civic groups. The entire firm will dearly miss him, and they wish him well in this new chapter.

Adams and McMullen have over 32 combined years of experience with MC&L and public accounting. They both currently serve in the role of Senior Manager. Adams has extensive expertise working with and auditing governmental and nonprofit organizations including foundations, charities, trade associations, religious organizations, Rural Development, and HUD family housing projects. She is always giving back to the community or paying it forward in the industry. Adams is the current Chair and past Millennial Chair of the MS Society of CPAs, Accounting and Auditing Committee, and a past MSCPA Young CPA Network president. McMullen excels in services ranging from financial statement audits or reviews, forensic investigations, and tax planning to transaction advisory including bankruptcy and distressed business taxation consulting. He is the current Chair and past Millennial Chair of the MS Society of CPAs, Professional Conduct Committee. McMullen is also a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors.
