415 Group Awarded Best Tax Service and Best Accounting Firm by Canton Repository
JACKSON TWP. For Scott Whetstone, it was about “our people,” as he explained what it means to capture the two awards he and his business colleagues at 415 Group did Thursday evening at The Canton Repository’s Best of the Best recognition ceremony.
The 415 Group, a tax service and business consulting firm based in Jackson Township, took the Best Accounting Firm and Best Tax Service awards.
“Our people are very important as are our customers are important,” Whetstone, a partner in 415 Group, said. “Our people are our biggest asset. Our staff is good, they take care of our customers.”
By our people, Whetstone is referring to the 415 Group staff. The company, he noted, grew over the years from six staffers to 60.
The awards ceremony, held at the Kent State University Stark Conference Center, culminates The Canton Repository-sponsored project to honor local businesses and service providers whom the public, through a voting process, selects as the best performers in the world of commerce in the area.
Top contestants are selected through a voting procedure. The voting is done online and through the mail. About 150,000 votes were cast this year in the Best of the Best contest.
“And it is voted on by our readers and the public,” explained Audra Boone, marketing manager for The Canton Repository. “For the most part it is Stark County businesses. It is not just businesses. It can be people, too. It can be best loan officer at a bank, best attorney. Best festival is one.”
There are 12 categories: Beauty, Clothing, Daily living, Dining and food, Health, Home care, Kids and education, Shopping, Spirits, Sports and fitness and Vehicles. Each of these categories contains subcategories in which the top three vote collectors are recognized. Out of that three, the eventual winner is selected.
“Many of you tonight represent small businesses,” said Dennis Saunier, president and chief executive officer of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce. “That is the backbone of any community. You are all winners tonight.”
